Steel Drilling

Steel plate drilling is a cold cutting process that utilises a drill bit in order to cut or enlarge a small circular hole within a solid work-piece. The drill bit will typically be a multi-point rotary cutting tool, which is pressed against the steel and rotated at thousands of revolutions per minute. This action forces the cutting edge away from the material and removes any chips from the hole as it is drilled. A drilled hole is largely characterised by the sharp edge on the entrance side.

Horizontal & vertical directional boring services

We can offers horizontal and vertical, also known as directional boring, drilling services. Directional boring involves a pilot borehole being drilled along a pre-determined bore path from the surface with minimum disturbance. Directional boring is mainly used for making crossings under rivers, roads and existing structures, with the purpose of installing pipes and conduits to transport different types of fluids and materials.

Directional boring, or horizontal and vertical drilling, is a way to get needed utilities from one point to another without destroying the existing ground or obstacles that are in between the two points. Directional drilling goes above and beyond traditional trenching, connecting utilities and services in places that traditional trenching is impossible.

Equipment at our in-house facility includes:

  • CNC controlled drilling machine offering drilled components up to 60mm in thickness
  • 2-metre Radial Arm Drill providing drilled components up to 150mm
  • CNC controlled drilling machine, with the ability to drill grids of holes in single or multiple lines, and to countersink holes and tap up to 100mm in thickness
  • Our team regularly produce steel profiles, rails, base plates and flanges with holes drilled to the customer's exact specifications.
